Ponderosa Pines and Douglas Firs are two of the high elevation trees found at Valles Caldera National Preserve and many other locations in the Western U.S. I was surrounded by these trees during my artist residency in the Valles Caldera National Preserve. In some spots these trees may be 300 to 400 years old.
Hand Printed Relief Print, 30”x22”, 100% cotton archival paper. The print is made from a piece of tooled and stamped leather. First the design is made using traditional western-style tools and stamps. Hammering the stamps puts their imprints on the leather piece. Ink rolled on the leather then prepares it for the printing press. The pressure of rolling through the press forces the very-thin layer of ink onto the paper.
